Some gratitude...

We've been talking and writing a lot about gratitude and being thankful this past week.  Tomorrow, we will share a special meal together as a  school community in our gym.  I am grateful for a new group of eager students this year!  Every day they teach me something new and give me something to smile about.  I am enjoying getting to know their  unique personalities and I am excited about the year we will spend together!  Thank you families for sharing your amazing children with me!

Stranded on A Desert Island

In the Wonderopolis article "What Would You Want on a Deserted Island" the video suggests that in order to get rescued you would need the following items: freshwater source, mirror, sticks, rocks, leaves, and clothes. Assuming your basic needs for survival were supplied by the island, what 3 additional things would you want to have with you? Why?

Global Read Aloud 2017

This year, our class will be participating in a project called the Global Read Aloud.  This project will start October 2nd and will run for approximately 6 weeks.  The idea behind it is very simple; teachers around the world read the same book aloud to their students and then use technology to share the reading experience with these other classrooms.  It is a free project and it fits perfectly into the standards we have to cover.

During the project, our class will be reading The Wild Robot and connecting with students around the world who are reading the same book.  We will use technology tools such as Edmodo and our class blog to facilitate these connections and conversations.

We are very excited to connect with others, especially since more than 600,000 students are already signed up to participate.  This project will allow for our students to use technology tools in a meaningful way, as well as learn about other cultures, all while listening to a fantastic read aloud.

If you would like more information about the Global Read Aloud, feel free to visit the website www.theglobalreadaloud.com or I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.  I look forward to starting this exciting project with your child, as well as seeing the connections we will make.

You can follow the conversations on twitter #gra2017 #grawild.  We will try to post here too!

We've been reading about and discussing Terry Fox.  We've been inspired to write some poetry about Terry too!  Here are some inspiring links to check out!

Grandmothers Walk

What a wonderful afternoon walk around the park to honour our grandmothers (and grandfathers) and their role in our lives.  We are truly grateful for all of our grandparents that are here or in our hearts.  We are happy to encourage and support this very special relationship!

Name the Puppy

We are going to enter a name for the RCMP Police Dog Training Service's Name the Puppy contest!  We were very lucky to have Constable Russell visit us and bring in his dog, Jed, that he works with.  We all enjoyed giving Jed some love and came up with a name for one of the puppies born this year.

Artist in the School Dance Workshop Performance

We had the good fortune of being able to work with Becky Sawdon, a contemporary dancer from Winnipeg, last week.  We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 daily sessions with her learning about contemporary dance and creating our own performance.  Here is our dance as we performed it in front of our school!
