Soapstone Carving
What a day! We were so lucky to spend a block with Mr. ManyEagles. He is an amazing soapstone carver and teacher! The time just flew by!
We were able to bring home 2 extra pieces of stone to carve. Mr. ManyEagles told us that we could use a nail file or even the sidewalk to shape the stone. He said that if we wanted a hole, the best way was to spin a drill bit between our fingers. DO NOT use a drill!! The stone is easily broken. After shaping the stone, you can use a kitchen scrubber pad to clean and polish your carving. A final step might be to rub a small amount of cooking oil onto your carving to make it shine or glow.
