A special visitor

Not only did Mr. Thomas help out with geocaching this morning, but he brought along a special guest!  We enjoyed hearing the story about how he caught him on the highway near Bellsite and put him in a water bottle to bring him home!  We wondered what stories that snake would tell if he could talk!!!

As you can tell, most of the kids were much braver than I was!!  You can't see me following Mr. Thomas with the hand sanitizer!! :)

Geocaching in the Park

What a great way to start the day!  Thanks a bunch to Mrs. Betcher for organizing this year's Harvest Geocaching event in Legion Park.  Special thanks to our Grade 5 helpers and Mrs. Mosiondz who assisted with our groups.  We had a blast finding the hidden treasures and doing the activities.  We also need to thank Mr. Thomas for coming by to share a special something (see our next post!) and got roped into coming geocaching too!! :)

Fish in a Tree Ch 1

Here we are listening to Lynda Mullaly Hunt read Chapter 1 and introduce us to her book. How amazing it was to listen to her and hear her talk about her book. Very cool!

Please comment below a connection you made to Chapter 1.  Be sure to tell what was happening in the story and describe the connection you're making!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

GRA - Let's Begin

Check out the link to our Padlet where we will make predictions about the book.

Listen to Lynda Mullaly Hunt welcome us to the Global Read Aloud project and read Chapter 1 for us!  How cool is that?

Global Read Aloud 2015

I'm so excited to begin one of my favourite projects - participating in the Global Read Aloud!

This project will start October 5th and will run for approximately 6 weeks.  The idea behind it is very simple; teachers around the world read the same book aloud to their students and then use technology to share the reading experience with these other classrooms.  It is a free project and it fits perfectly into the standards we have to cover.

During the project, our class will be reading Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt and connecting with students around the world who are reading the same book.  We will use technology tools such as Edmodo, Padlet and our class blog to facilitate these connections and conversations.

We are very excited to connect with others, especially since more than 200,000 students are already signed up to participate.  This project will allow for our students to use technology tools in a meaningful way, as well as learn about other cultures, all while listening to a fantastic read aloud.

I look forward to starting this exciting project with your child, as well as seeing the connections we will make.

Check out this map that shows where classes are reading Fish in a Tree!
