Finally up & running!

Well it has taken a little while to get this going, but better late than never!

The first term is flying by as we get to know one another.  It has been a busy fall!  Here are some of the highlights from September!

Fractions are our Friends Pizza Party

We celebrated fractions with a memorable event.  Everyone has LOVED working on fractions in math.  So we've created a "Fractions happy place" where the Grade 3s can go if fractions ever start to frustrate them as they go through school (some people reported that older siblings are very annoyed by fractions!).
It turned out fantastically!  Great easy dough recipe too!

Write and Share

Jayde had a really awesome Write and Share this afternoon that had everyone asking all kinds of questions.

Of course, we all needed to know how to find the instructions!  Jayde said he Googled "How to build Mario" and several options came up in.  He just chose the one he wanted and followed along.  Here's a link to my sample Google search.  Happy building everybody!  Make sure you take pictures or bring them in to share with the rest of us!  Thanks for teaching us something new today! :)

We've got spirit!

What a week! We've got spirit!!!

Here are a few pictures of our dress up days and of course, assembly highlights from this morning! We raised over $450 in loose change, which will buy milk for our local food bank! That meant that Mr. Kopecky (Mooster Cowpecky!!) had to dress up in a cow costume! As an added bonus, there was a surprise - 2 students were selected to throw a "cow patty" (cream pie) at their favorite principal! What a great way to wrap up the week!

See you April 2!!

Making butter like the pioneers

We're reading "Little House in the Big Woods" by Laura Ingalls Wilder to complement our Nelson Literacy theme "Early Settlers". In the chapter we read yesterday, Laura described the butter making process. So, today we gave it a go ourselves! It turned out deliciously!! It tasted scrumptious on fresh bread from the Quick Stop. Mmmmmmmmmmm!!

Pioneer Life - Similarities and Differences

We're going to try collaborating on a presentation about some similarities and differences between our lives and the lives of the pioneers.  We're amazed at what life was like for people about 175 years ago!

The Stampeders Visit

We were really excited to have some of the Swan Valley Stampeders in the school today. Ryan Wigner spent some time in our class listening to most of us read a page or two out of our home reading books to him. The real treat was inviting all of the Stampeders to join 3A and 3B for a game of Wall Ball in the gym for indoor recess. It was super intense and a ton of fun! Thanks guys for making our day!

Skating Fridays

We've been enjoying our weekly skate at the local arena!  I think our favorite part would have to be the last ten minutes when the Grade 2s leave the ice and we have it all to ourselves!
